Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 Receives the “Certified Software” Seal

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 10, running on the Windows 8 operating system, underwent a rigorous evaluation by TÜV TRUST IT. The certification was based on the “Trusted Internet Application” requirements catalog.

Internet communication is becoming increasingly important in both private and professional life. The web browser serves as the central interface to the internet, making it one of the primary targets for attacks from malicious actors online.

To provide users with guidance on the growing importance of criteria such as data security, protection mechanisms, and compliance from an information security perspective, TÜV TRUST IT GmbH, part of the TÜV AUSTRIA Group, developed the “Trusted Internet Application” requirements catalog. This catalog includes organizational assessments related to software development, data security, and compliance features, as well as a technical security analysis of the application.

Secure Browsing with Internet Explorer 10

“During the evaluation for compliance with the requirements catalog, the browser—just like its predecessors Internet Explorer 8 and 9—demonstrated security-optimized and robust behavior. The browser’s protection mechanisms work very well,” explains Detlev Henze, Managing Director of TÜV TRUST IT.

In both the technical implementation of attack protection and the organizational measures to maintain and continuously improve the protection level, Internet Explorer 10 meets all the requirements of the evaluation catalog. The browser offers users a range of important security features for everyday use. These include a reliable anti-XSS component and an anti-malware function via Windows Defender, which informs users about malicious code in files and prevents them from being saved.

Additionally, the InPrivate mode protects browsing sessions from prying eyes and automatically prevents history, temporary internet files, and cookies from being stored on the PC. The browser also features an anti-phishing protection mechanism called SmartScreen Filter, which blocks phishing attacks and protects against websites that attempt to distribute malicious software.
