Open Telekom Cloud with certified data security

TÜV TRUST IT GmbH, part of the TÜV AUSTRIA Group, supported T-Systems in the certification projects.

Before launching the Open Telekom Cloud at CeBIT 2016, T-Systems ensured that the service met high standards for data protection and data security. TÜV TRUST IT certified it according to the “TÜV Trusted Cloud Service” and also conducted an ISMS GAP analysis for additional certification based on the requirements of the Cloud Security Alliance.

Whether cloud computing, mobile solutions, or data analytics – all these technologies pose entirely new challenges for IT security. In addition, cyberattacks on corporate networks and IT systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated and have evolved into a serious threat to the economy. Data protection and data security are therefore key success factors in all technological developments. T-Systems and the entire Telekom Group focus on protecting their IT systems and networks, as well as the data of corporate and private customers, from any kind of cyber threats.

This commitment also applies to the Open Telekom Cloud, launched at CeBIT 2016, which underwent a comprehensive certification process. Initially, T-Systems had the platform audited by TÜV TRUST IT according to the “TÜV Trusted Cloud Service” standard, focusing on IT security, IT operations, and data protection. The audit catalog is based on various established standards (such as ISO/IEC 27018:2014), laws, and widely accepted IT security best practices. “A high level of security and quality was confirmed,” summarizes Detlev Henze, Managing Director of TÜV TRUST IT, regarding the results of the “TÜV Trusted Cloud Service” certification.

Following this, a certification of the environment according to the requirements of CSA-STAR (Cloud Security Alliance Security, Trust & Assurance Registry) was initiated. The Cloud Security Alliance is a non-commercial consortium of companies and organizations aiming to promote the secure use of cloud computing and to establish a legal framework for globally recognized certification. Its standardized audit process enables objective evaluation of cloud services, based on an effective and certified Information Security Management System (ISMS) according to ISO/IEC 27001:2013. To identify potential gaps, TÜV TRUST IT conducted an ISMS GAP analysis using its assessment tool, which also incorporates CSA-STAR requirements. The certification was subsequently carried out by TÜV Austria Deutschland GmbH.

Telekom and its business customer division T-Systems offer cost-effective and secure IT resources from the so-called public cloud for companies of all sizes through the Open Telekom Cloud. This complements the group’s cloud portfolio, which already leads in managed services from highly secure clouds for business customers and benefits from a broad ecosystem of software and technology partners. By 2018, Telekom aims to become the number one provider of cloud services in Europe.
