Quality seal for the security of the Johanniter data center

“TÜV Trusted Data Center” certification by TÜV TRUST IT GmbH, part of the TÜV AUSTRIA Group.

Johanniter Competence Center GmbH (JCC), the full-service provider for the Johanniter’s stationary facilities, meets high security requirements for data center operations and has received the “Trusted Data Center” quality seal from TÜV TRUST IT.

Under the management of Johanniter GmbH, the work of the Johanniter’s stationary facilities in Germany is consolidated. These include hospitals, specialist and rehabilitation clinics, as well as medical care centers. Johanniter GmbH also includes elderly care facilities. The central IT service provider for Johanniter GmbH’s facilities is Johanniter Competence Center GmbH (JCC), based in Berlin. In addition to operating and supporting IT systems down to the process level as a full-service provider, JCC also handles strategic procurement for the Johanniter network. Operating a service data center is also one of JCC’s core tasks. Overall, JCC supports over 130 stationary facilities, including those outside the Johanniter network.

To transparently demonstrate its high security standards in data center operations through a quality seal, JCC commissioned TÜV TRUST IT to certify its data center according to the “TÜV Trusted Data Center” standard. The certification assesses whether the defined criteria of the audit catalog are met, based on the three protection goals of availability, confidentiality, and integrity, as well as requirements for business continuity. TÜV TRUST IT developed an evaluation standard for this purpose, taking into account national and international standards and best practices. This standard allows data centers to be assessed in terms of their tolerance to technical disruptions and the processes required to maintain operational security.

As part of the certification project, the existing documentation was first reviewed for plausibility and compliance with the “TÜV Trusted Data Center” audit catalog. This was followed by an analysis of the technical and procedural conditions. In the third step, a site inspection was conducted to compare the structural and technical aspects with the previously obtained results. The positive audit findings led to the successful completion of the “Trusted Data Center” certification.

“Johanniter Competence Center GmbH is a good example of how a data center can be operated reliably and securely. The implementation of the data center rooms was well planned and carried out according to applicable standards. During the audit, it was demonstrated that the infrastructure is continuously maintained and serviced,” explains Markus Weyland, Auditor at TÜV TRUST IT. “The common requirements for a future-oriented data center operation were met. Particularly noteworthy is the comprehensive protection for the qualified services provided. The fundamental protection goals of availability, confidentiality, and integrity can be considered assured.”

For Ralf Hörstgen, Managing Director of JCC, the certification is the logical result of a deeply rooted commitment to quality. “Our facilities rely on being supported at a very high level in their work through IT services. The certification is, for us, the objective proof of our commitment to competence and security.”
