Challenging project successfully completed – RSB LOGISTIC Projektspedition GmbH reaches certification readiness

As part of the CLI Group, RSB LOGISTIC Projektspedition GmbH operates branches in Germany, France, Canada, and the United States. With over 40 years of experience, the company is one of the market leaders in the transport of highly sensitive goods, such as radioactive materials. These are shipped worldwide by RSB LOGISTIC for the front-end fuel cycle.

Planning and executing cross-border transports by air, sea, road, and rail are part of RSB LOGISTIC’s daily operations – always meeting critical transport requirements, even when combining multiple modes of transport.

Thanks to decades of experience, RSB LOGISTIC has a deep understanding of its customers’ needs and the specific demands of complex projects. This expertise has helped build strong, trust-based relationships with clients – and for good reason: the company’s success relies heavily on the confidence of its customers, employees, and the public in its performance and integrity.

A key pillar of that trust – and of meeting business and compliance requirements – is the protection of information. Particularly sensitive are electronic data, especially personal customer and contract information.

RSB LOGISTIC Managing Director Marc Schweiger emphasizes the importance of this project: “ISMS certification is vital to our company’s survival. Without it, we won’t receive the necessary regulatory approvals for future transport operations. Beyond that, we truly value the added benefits in terms of increased security, structure, and organization.”

To ensure transparency and demonstrate the security of its data, RSB LOGISTIC commissioned TÜV TRUST IT GmbH, part of the TÜV AUSTRIA Group, to carry out the certification project. A decision that quickly proved to be the right one: “From the very first meeting, it was clear that TÜV TRUST IT understood our situation, could estimate the workload, and – most importantly – was able to provide the resources we urgently needed,” says Schweiger.

The project began with a comprehensive joint scoping workshop, followed by the official kick-off meeting in mid-March 2024. The goal: to achieve certification readiness by June of the same year. During the kick-off, the general methodology of the BSI IT-Grundschutz approach was presented, along with an overview of the project timeline. The topic of structural analysis was also introduced on that day.

Over the course of the customer-defined project period, the experts from TÜV TRUST IT implemented an Information Security Management System (ISMS) based on the BSI IT-Grundschutz Compendium. This included a structural analysis, baseline protection check modeling, creation of reference documents, and execution of protection needs assessment and risk management.

This meant a significant workload for both the RSB LOGISTIC project team and the TÜV TRUST IT consultants – all within a very tight timeframe. Despite having only eight RSB LOGISTIC employees and three TÜV TRUST IT consultants involved, the challenge was mastered with excellence.

Given the scope of the project, the IT team at RSB’s parent company, CLI AG, also expressed very positive feedback. They especially praised the clear guidance and structured approach of the TÜV TRUST IT experts, whose competence and confidence helped foster a strong sense of assurance within the team – even in the face of overwhelming requirements and tasks.

Due to limited time and personnel resources, the project posed a significant challenge for everyone involved. Nevertheless, the TÜV TRUST IT project team successfully met the demanding objective of establishing a certifiable ISMS within just four months.

The stakeholders are correspondingly pleased with the outcome and the strong collaboration: “The successful BSI IT-Grundschutz audit in July and the submission of the audit report and reference documents to the BSI in September 2024 were particularly important milestones for us. These could only be achieved thanks to the excellent leadership, guidance, and support provided by TÜV TRUST IT throughout the implementation of the Grundschutz standards. Workload, process, and timelines were always communicated and coordinated with all parties in an outstanding manner. The TÜV TRUST IT team gave us confidence early on that we would reach our ambitious goal within a short timeframe,” says RSB LOGISTIC Managing Director Marc Schweiger.

“For our company, the implementation of the ISMS project was a major learning experience. We are a small enterprise, active in the field of international transport services for specialized goods, primarily focused on operational activities. This project required us to describe, model, and implement business processes and structures that affect all areas – especially operations, marketing, and IT. Given our specific starting point, we greatly appreciated the commitment, availability, and understanding of our needs from the very beginning.”

Marcel Merzig, project manager at TÜV TRUST IT, also expressed his satisfaction with the successful completion: “Overall, this was an extremely interesting and dynamic assignment for both sides – not least because of the industry the client operates in. Thanks to the intensive and above all positive collaboration, the project successfully led to the client’s certification readiness. For us at TÜV TRUST IT, it’s a major achievement to have proven that we can establish a fully functional ISMS even within a very short timeframe.”
