TÜV TRUST IT Examines “User Trust Experience” (UTE) in Relation to Huawei Smartphone Products

TÜV TRUST IT GmbH has been operating successfully as an IT security TÜV for many years and belongs to the TÜV AUSTRIA group. From its locations in Cologne and Vienna, the company acts as the neutral, objective and independent partner of the economy. The focus is on the identification and assessment of IT risks. The services cover the areas of information security management, mobile security, cloud security, security of systems, products and infrastructures, IT risk management and IT compliance.

The UTE research project was commissioned by TÜV TRUST IT at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Luigi Lo Iacono. TÜV TRUST IT cooperates with the university and Huawei UCD Center  on the research project “User Trust Experience” (UTE).

This project targets the factors that can influence users’ trust in technical components. The corresponding studies in the project relate to smartphone products from project partner Huawei and in particular to the authorisation system in the EMUI operating system. The team

led by Professor Lo Iacono examines various technical design aspects that give end users increased trust or a loss of trust in modern technologies. For this purpose, analytical studies and empirical studies are carried out. The goal is to develop concrete improvements for the authorisation management of EMUI, which communicate a secure handling of user data in a

user-friendly way and thereby provide a higher trust-level in the technology. These insights shall then be abstracted into general principles and standards for trustworthy technology design with appropriate usability.

By means of the applied empirical investigation and the derivation of standard requirements for the intuitive usability of the security requirements of authorisation management the retail customers’ trust-level shall increase. This is intended to create a higher level of acceptance towards digitisation in order further accelerate this transformation.
